Report: Tree Plantation Drive Celebrated on World Environment Day
By: Vikas/Vidya, Leader, Eco Club Bhopal, June 6, 2023 \nTo raise awareness about environmental protection and deforestation, Govt. Boys HS School, Bhopal celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2023, by organizing a massive 'Tree Plantation Drive' on the campus and surrounding community parks. \nThe drive was inaugurated at 8:30 AM by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), who planted a neem sapling alongside the Principal. Over 200 saplings of medicinal and shade-giving trees, including Neem, Peepal, Gulmohar, and Ashoka, were planted by students and teachers. Each student was assigned responsibility for the care of one plant. \nA street play (Nukkad Natak) on the theme 'Save Earth, Plant Trees' was performed by Eco-Club members, highlighting the dangers of global warming. The chief guest praised the students' enthusiasm and gifted indoor plants to active volunteers. The event ended with a pledge to nurture the newly planted trees.
Common Errors in Report Writing and How to Avoid Them
- Use of First Person ('I', 'We'): Reports must be factual and objective. Students often use personal pronouns.
- Fix: Always write in the third person (e.g., 'The event was inaugurated' instead of 'We inaugurated').
- Incorrect Tense Usage: Mixing present and past tenses creates confusion.
- Fix: Use Simple Past Tense for completed actions and Past Continuous for ongoing background events.
- Subjective Opinions: Adding personal feelings or biased commentary distracts from facts.
- Fix: Stick strictly to observable facts, dates, figures, and quotes from guests.
- Lack of Proper Format: Omitting the headline, date, or byline makes the report look incomplete.
- Fix: Ensure all structural components (Headline, Byline, Date, Body, Conclusion) are neatly organized.
- Informal Language: Using colloquial terms or slang reduces professional quality.
- Fix: Use formal, precise vocabulary and passive voice constructions where applicable.
