Q: What is the value of $3 \frac{1}{2} + 1 \frac{1}{4}$?

First convert mixed fractions to improper fractions: $3 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{7}{2}$ and $1 \frac{1}{4} = \frac{5}{4}$. Find a common denominator, which is 4. $\frac{7}{2} = \frac{14}{4}$. Then add: $\frac{14}{4} + \frac{5}{4} = \frac{19}{4} = 4 \frac{3}{4}$.

Q: Solve: $2.5 \times 1.5$

Multiply normally as whole numbers: $25 \times 15 = 375$. Since there are a total of two decimal places in the numbers (one in 2.5 and one in 1.5), place the decimal point two digits from the right: 3.75.

Question 1

What is the product of $\frac{2}{3}$ and $\frac{4}{5}$?

Accepted Answer

To find the product of two fractions, multiply their numerators together and their denominators together. $\frac{2}{3} \times \frac{4}{5} = \frac{2 \times 4}{3 \times 5} = \frac{8}{15}$.

Question 2

Which of the following is a proper fraction?

Accepted Answer

A proper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is less than the denominator. Among the given options, 3/5 has a numerator (3) smaller than its denominator (5).

Question 3

What is the value of $3 \frac{1}{2} + 1 \frac{1}{4}$?

Accepted Answer

First convert mixed fractions to improper fractions: $3 \frac{1}{2} = \frac{7}{2}$ and $1 \frac{1}{4} = \frac{5}{4}$. Find a common denominator, which is 4. $\frac{7}{2} = \frac{14}{4}$. Then add: $\frac{14}{4} + \frac{5}{4} = \frac{19}{4} = 4 \frac{3}{4}$.

Question 4

What is the reciprocal of $\frac{7}{9}$?

Accepted Answer

The reciprocal of a fraction is obtained by interchanging its numerator and denominator. Thus, the reciprocal of $\frac{7}{9}$ is $\frac{9}{7}$.

Question 5

Solve: $2.5 \times 1.5$

Accepted Answer

Multiply normally as whole numbers: $25 \times 15 = 375$. Since there are a total of two decimal places in the numbers (one in 2.5 and one in 1.5), place the decimal point two digits from the right: 3.75.
