Footprints Without Feet: Bholi

Bholi rejected Bishamber Nath at the time of marriage because of his extreme greed and shameless demand for dowry. When Bishamber saw Bholi's face covered with pock-marks, he rudely demanded a sum of five thousand rupees as a condition to proceed with the wedding, threatening to go back if his demand was not met. Ramlal placed his turban at Bishamber's feet and even managed to arrange the money, but Bholi's self-respect was deeply hurt by this greedy and insulting behavior. She realized that Bishamber was a mean, cowardly, and greedy person who only wanted money, not a true life partner. Refusing to be treated like a commodity traded for cash, she threw the garland into the fire and courageously refused to marry such a contemptible man.
