Chapter: Friction (рдШрд░реНрд╖рдг)
### Concept 1: What is Friction?
- Definition: Friction is the force that opposes the relative motion between two surfaces in contact. It acts on both surfaces.
- Direction: It always acts in a direction opposite to the direction of motion.
### Concept 2: Factors Affecting Friction (рдШрд░реНрд╖рдг рдХреЛ рдкреНрд░рднрд╛рд╡рд┐рдд рдХрд░рдиреЗ рд╡рд╛рд▓реЗ рдХрд╛рд░рдХ)
Friction depends on two main factors:
- Nature of Surfaces: Smooth surfaces have less friction, while rough surfaces have more friction.
- How hard the surfaces press together: Greater the force pressing the surfaces together, greater is the friction.
### Concept 3: Types of Friction
There are mainly three types of friction encountered in daily life:
-
Static Friction (рд╕реНрдереИрддрд┐рдХ рдШрд░реНрд╖рдг):
- The force required to overcome friction when an object is just about to move from rest.
-
Sliding Friction (рд╕рд░реНрдкреА рдШрд░реНрд╖рдг):
- The force that opposes the motion when an object is sliding over a surface. It is slightly smaller than static friction.
-
Rolling Friction (рд▓реЛрдЯрдирд┐рдХ рдШрд░реНрд╖рдг):
- When one body rolls over the surface of another body, the resistance to its motion is called rolling friction. It is the least among all types of friction.
- Order of Magnitude (Magnitude рдХрд╛ рдХреНрд░рдо): $$\text{Rolling Friction} < \text{Sliding Friction} < \text{Static Friction}$$
