1. Introduction to Light
- Light: Light is a form of energy that enables us to see objects around us. It travels in a straight line.
- Luminous Objects (рджреАpt рд╡рд╕реНрддреБрдПрдБ): Objects that emit their own light are called luminous objects.
- Examples: Sun, torch, glowing bulb, firefly.
- Non-Luminous Objects (рдЕрджреАpt рд╡рд╕реНрддреБрдПрдБ): Objects that do not emit their own light, but become visible when light falls on them.
- Examples: Moon, book, chair, tree.
2. Classification of Objects Based on Light
Objects interact with light in different ways. They are divided into three types:
- Transparent (рдкрд╛рд░рджрд░реНрд╢реА): Materials through which light can pass completely. We can see clearly through them.
- Examples: Clear glass, pure water, clean air.
- Translucent (рдкрд╛рд░рднрд╛рд╕реА): Materials through which light can pass only partially. We cannot see clearly through them.
- Examples: Butter paper, oiled paper, frosted glass.
- Opaque (рдЕрдкрд╛рд░рджрд░реНрд╢реА): Materials through which light cannot pass at all. We cannot see through them at all.
- Examples: Wood, metal, cardboard, stone.
3. Rectilinear Propagation of Light
- Definition: Light always travels along a straight-line path. This property is known as the rectilinear propagation of light (рдкреНрд░рдХрд╛рд╢ рдХрд╛ рд╕реАрдзрд╛ рдЧрдорди).
- Activity Evidence: Pin-hole camera or looking at a candle flame through a straight pipe versus a bent pipe.
4. Shadows (рдЫрд╛рдпрд╛)
- What is a shadow? A dark patch formed when an opaque object blocks the path of light is called a shadow.
- Requirements for the formation of a shadow:
- A source of light (рдкреНрд░рдХрд╛рд╢ рд╕реНрд░реЛрдд)
- An opaque object (рдЕрдкрд╛рд░рджрд░реНрд╢реА рд╡рд╕реНрддреБ)
- A screen or surface on which the shadow is formed (рдкрд░рджрд╛)
- Characteristics of Shadows:
- Shadows are always dark, regardless of the color of the object or the light.
- They provide information only about the shape or outline of the object, not its internal details or colors.
- The size of the shadow depends on the distance between the light source and the object, and the distance between the object and the screen.
5. Pin-hole Camera (рдкрд┐рдирд╣реЛрд▓ рдХреИрдорд░рд╛)
- Working Principle: It works on the principle that light travels in a straight line.
- Image Formed: The image formed by a pin-hole camera is inverted (upside down) and real, but it maintains the colors of the object.
6. Mirrors and Reflections (рджрд░реНрдкрдг рдФрд░ рдкрд░рд╛рд╡рд░реНрддрди)
- Mirror: A smooth, highly polished surface that reflects a clear image of objects placed in front of it.
- Reflection of Light (рдкреНрд░рдХрд╛рд╢ рдХрд╛ рдкрд░рд╛рд╡рд░реНрддрди): When a beam of light falls on a shiny, polished surface (like a mirror), it bounces back in a different direction. This bouncing back of light is called reflection.
- Images vs. Shadows:
- Image: Shows the color, details, and exact features of the object.
- Shadow: Only shows a dark outline/shape of the object with no details or colors.
