The conservation of mineral resources is extremely important for the sustainable economic development of a nation due to the following reasons:

1. Finite and Non-Renewable Nature: Minerals are finite and non-renewable natural resources. The total workable mineral deposits are an insignificant fraction, about one percent, of the Earth's crust.
2. Slow Formation Process: Geological processes required for mineral formation are extremely slow, taking millions of years, whereas our rate of consumption is exceedingly rapid.
3. Depletion of High-Grade Ores: Continued extraction leads to depletion of high-grade ores, forcing deeper mining which increases production costs while quality declines.

Measures for Conservation:

• Efficient Utilization: Developing planned and sustainable technologies to use mineral resources efficiently and minimize wastage during mining and processing.
• Recycling and Alternatives: Recycling metals through scrap material utilization and substituting scarce minerals with renewable alternatives (such as plastics, solar power, and biomass).
