In the poem 'Pad' by Surdas, the Gopis mockingly address Uddhav as 'Badbhagi', which literally translates to 'very fortunate'. However, this address is deeply ironical and sarcastic. The Gopis actually want to convey that Uddhav is extremely unfortunate because he has lived right next to Lord Krishna, the supreme embodiment of pure love, yet he remains completely untouched by the feeling of divine love. His heart has never experienced the joy, depth, and sweetness of devotion. Just like a lotus leaf stays in water without getting wet, or an oily earthen pot dropped in water does not absorb a single drop, Uddhav remains entirely uninfluenced by Krishna's magnetic personality and affection. Thus, calling him fortunate is actually a sharp taunt highlighting his emotional emptiness and extreme misfortune in failing to realize the divine power of love.
