Once the narrator flew his old Dakota aeroplane into the dark storm clouds, everything suddenly turned pitch black. It became absolutely impossible to see anything outside the airplane. Inside the cockpit, the plane began to jump and twist violently in the turbulent air. When he looked at the instrument panel, he was shocked to find that the compass was turning round and round and was completely dead. Other critical instruments, including the radio, also stopped functioning, leaving him unable to contact Paris Control for guidance. He was completely lost in the storm with rapidly depleting fuel, facing an extremely life-threatening situation.
