Xylem and phloem are complex permanent tissues in vascular plants. Xylem conducts water and mineral nutrients absorbed by roots unidirectionally upwards to the leaves and stem parts. In contrast, phloem transports organic food (sucrose) manufactured in the leaves bi-directionally to all other living parts of the plant, including roots, fruits, and storage organs, ensuring proper growth and energy distribution.
