Reverberation is the repeated reflection of sound from walls, ceiling, and floor of an enclosed space, resulting in the persistence of sound. Excessive reverberation makes sound unclear. It can be reduced by covering walls and ceiling with sound-absorbent materials like compressed fiberboard, rough plaster, draperies, or by using upholstered seats in auditoriums.
