Crop rotation is the practice of growing different types of crops sequentially on the same land in a pre-planned order. For instance, growing a nitrogen-fixing legume crop like peas or pulses after a heavy nutrient-consuming cereal crop like wheat. This practice prevents the depletion of specific soil nutrients, breaks pest and disease life cycles, and naturally restores soil fertility through biological nitrogen fixation.
