My Favourite Festival: Diwali
1. Introduction\nIndia is known as a land of festivals, where people of different cultures celebrate various occasions throughout the year. Among all festivals, my favourite festival is Diwali, also known as Deepawali or the 'Festival of Lights'. It is celebrated with great joy, enthusiasm, and devotion across the entire country.
2. Reason for Celebration\nDiwali has great historical and religious significance. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya on this day along with Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshmana after completing fourteen years of exile and defeating the demon king Ravana. The people of Ayodhya welcomed them by lighting thousands of earthen lamps (diyas) made of clay. Since then, this festival has been celebrated every year.
3. How it is Celebrated\nPreparations for Diwali begin weeks in advance. People clean, paint, and decorate their houses and shops. On the main day, people wear new clothes, decorate their homes with colorful rangolis, flower garlands, and electric lights. In the evening, families worship Goddess Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth) and Lord Ganesha to seek their blessings for prosperity and happiness. Sweets and gifts are exchanged among relatives and neighbors.
4. Importance and Message\nDiwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It promotes togetherness, brotherhood, and harmony in society as people forgive past bitterness and embrace each other with warmth.
5. Conclusion\nDiwali brings joy, hope, and brightness into everyone's life. However, we should celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali by minimizing the use of noisy and polluting firecrackers to protect our environment and animals. Overall, Diwali is a wonderful festival that spreads love and happiness everywhere.
