MP Board · Class 10 · Science · Sources of EnergyWhat are the desirable characteristics of a good source of energy? Explain any three.
A good source of energy is one which would do a large amount of work per unit volume or mass, be easily accessible, be easy to store and transport, and perhaps most importantly, be economical. \nFirst, it should have a high calorific value. This means it must release a large amount of heat energy per unit mass or volume consumed, making it efficient for domestic and industrial applications. \nSecond, it should be easily accessible and available in adequate quantities. If a source requires complex extraction processes or is extremely rare, it cannot serve as a reliable primary energy source for a large population. \nThird, it must be easy to store and transport safely. Sources that are volatile, highly unstable, or extremely bulky pose severe logistical and safety challenges during transit and storage, reducing their practical utility. \nFourth, it should be economical. The cost of harnessing energy from the source should be affordable so that people from all economic strata can utilize it without facing severe financial burdens, thereby supporting sustainable socio-economic development.
