Non-biodegradable substances are those materials that cannot be broken down or decomposed by biological processes involving microorganisms and remain intact in the environment for very long periods. Because they persist for decades or centuries, they accumulate and cause severe environmental pollution, land degradation, and harm to wildlife. Examples include plastics, synthetic polymers, glass, DDT, and heavy metals.
