A convex mirror is preferred as a rear-view mirror in vehicles because it always produces a virtual, erect, and diminished image of objects placed in front of it. Regardless of the distance of the traffic behind the vehicle, the image formed is upright, ensuring that drivers do not get confused by upside-down imagery. More importantly, convex mirrors have a much wider field of view compared to plane mirrors or concave mirrors of the same size because they are curved outwards. This curved outward geometry enables the driver to view a very large area of traffic behind them, covering several lanes and reducing blind spots significantly. Consequently, drivers get a panoramic view of the road conditions behind their vehicles, greatly enhancing road safety and helping them make better driving decisions during navigation, turning, and overtaking maneuvers.
