Balgobin Bhagat was a man of medium height with a fair complexion, aged around sixty. He had white hair, though it had not completely turned white, and his face was adorned with sparse hair rather than a full beard. He wore very few clothes—typically a loincloth (langot) around his waist and a black woolen blanket wrapped around his shoulders during the winter. On his head, he always wore a Kabir-panthi saintly cap made of reddish-brown bark (kanthi). A prominent Ramanandi tilak, made from basil roots (tulsi ki jad), was smeared across his forehead in a broad shape, stretching down to his nose. Despite being a householder with a son and a daughter-in-law, his lifestyle, character, and adherence to truth and principles completely mirrored those of an ascetic saint. He never took anything belonging to others without permission and always distributed his agricultural produce to Kabir's mutt first.
