Microsporogenesis is the biological process of formation of microspores from a pollen mother cell (PMC) through the process of meiosis. Within the microsporangium or pollen sac, each cell of the sporogenous tissue undergoes meiotic divisions to form a tetrad of four haploid microspores. These microspores subsequently dissociate and develop into mature pollen grains, which represent the male gametophytes in flowering plants. This crucial event ensures the reduction of chromosome number from diploid to haploid, maintaining genetic diversity during sexual reproduction.
