Everything available in our environment that can be used to satisfy our needs, provided it is technologically accessible, economically feasible, and culturally acceptable, is termed as a resource. On the basis of origin, resources are classified into two main categories:

1. Biotic Resources: These are obtained from the biosphere and have life, such as human beings, flora, fauna, fisheries, and livestock.
2. Abiotic Resources: These are composed of non-living things, such as rocks, minerals, land, and metals.
