Black soil, also known as Regur soil or black cotton soil, is ideal for growing cotton. It is typical of the Deccan trap region spread over the northwest Deccan plateau and is made up of lava flows. This soil is rich in nutrients like calcium carbonate, magnesium, potash, and lime, but generally poor in phosphoric contents. It is famous for its capacity to hold moisture and develops deep cracks during hot weather, which helps in proper aeration of the soil.
