Alluvial soil is the most widely spread and important soil found in India, especially in the northern plains and eastern coastal plains. It is formed by the deposition of sediments brought by three major Himalayan river systems: the Indus, the Ganga, and the Brahmaputra. This soil contains adequate proportions of potash, phosphoric acid, and lime, making it extremely fertile and ideal for the growth of crops like sugarcane, paddy, wheat, pulses, and coarse grains.
