Resources are everything available in our environment that can be used to satisfy our needs, provided they are technologically accessible, economically feasible, and culturally acceptable. On the basis of exhaustibility, resources are broadly classified into two categories: renewable resources, which can be renewed or reproduced by physical, chemical, or mechanical processes (e.g., solar energy, water, forests), and non-renewable resources, which occur over a very long geological time and get exhausted with use (e.g., minerals and fossil fuels).
