Classification of Minerals
\nMinerals are naturally occurring substances with a definite internal structure. They are broadly classified into three main categories based on their composition:

Metallic Minerals: These minerals contain metals and are the source of metal extraction. They are further divided into:
- Ferrous Minerals: Containing iron, such as iron ore, manganese, nickel, and cobalt. They form the strong base for metallurgical industries.
- Non-Ferrous Minerals: Do not contain iron, such as copper, lead, tin, and bauxite (aluminum).
- Precious Minerals: Highly valuable metals like gold, silver, and platinum.

Non-Metallic Minerals: These minerals do not contain metals. Examples include mica, salt, potash, sulphur, granite, limestone, marble, and sandstone. Mica, for instance, is extremely important in the electric and electronic industries due to its insulating properties.

Energy Minerals: These are mineral fuels found in association with sedimentary strata. Examples include coal, petroleum, and natural gas, which provide energy required for various industrial and domestic purposes.
