• Constitutional Provisions: The Constitution of India clearly demarcated powers between the Union Government and State Governments through the Union List, State List, and Concurrent List. This minimizes jurisdictional conflicts.
• Linguistic States: The creation of linguistic states was the first and a major test for democratic politics in India. Boundaries of several old states of India were changed in order to ensure that people who spoke the same language lived in the same state. This made the country more united and administration easier.
• Language Policy: Unlike Sri Lanka or Pakistan, the makers of the Indian Constitution were wise to avoid giving the status of a 'national language' to any single language. Hindi was identified as the official language, but safeguards were provided to protect other regional languages through the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
