A convex mirror is universally preferred as a rear-view mirror in automobiles because it always produces a virtual, erect, and highly diminished image of objects situated behind the vehicle. Due to its outward curved reflecting surface, a convex mirror has a very wide field of view, enabling the driver to observe traffic spread over a large area behind them safely. Furthermore, the images formed are much smaller than the actual objects, which creates a compact view of a vast roadway, thus helping prevent blind spots and minimizing accidents.
